Battlefields of the Second World War

Visit key locations from the Second World War with Gold Crest Holidays.

Their informative expert guide will accompany you to their selection of excursions.

On the first day you will visit the concentration camp inside the Fortress of Breendonk before moving on to Hitler’s formidable line of defences – the “Atlantic Wall”, where there is now a fascinating museum.

On Day Three comes the giant underground bunker that housed the German’s secret V2 rockets and then to Mimoyeques, where you will see the network of tunnels dug into the hillside that hid the V3 Super Gun Fortress.

The next day includes a full day excursion to Dunkirk – the location of the massive British Expeditionary Force evacuation from German-occupied mainland Europe. You will follow the route of the retreat from the Lille area to the coast, visiting La Bassee Canal, the poignant massacre sight at La Paradise and Hazerbrook, home to the V1 launch area.

Finally, you can add on the optional excursion to mediaeval Bruges – known as the “Venice of the North” because of its pretty canals and bridges.
